Only 1 of the 11 numbers on Promises and Lies is a cover tune, but the band's remake of Elvis Presley's "Can't Help Falling in Love" is a real treat. Featured in the film Sliver, the ballad gets a new momentum from UB40's horns and rhythm section and finds its obsessive quality reinforced by /5(27).

Signing Off is the debut album by British reggae band UB40, released in the UK on 29 August by Dudley-based independent label Graduate mavelvcerebordrelanrad.xyzinfo was an immediate success in their home country, reaching number 2 on the UK albums chart, and made UB40 one of the many popular reggae bands in Britain, several years before the band found international fame.

Carried by the hit "Can't Help Falling in Love," Promises and Lies finishes UB40's transition from a reggae band to an adult-contemporary band that plays reggae-pop. Fans of the single will be satisfied by Promises and Lies, but older fans will find the whole affair rather dismaying.

All your promises were lies Promises and lies Promises and lies Your cut was quick and deep but then You thought you'd never need a friend But all things change, and tides must turn And you let all your bridges burn Too many fatal wounds to heal Now you're feeling what I feel The rest is history You can do no more to me I've been down so low.

UB40 only kept the sound. By creating their own message, they were able to make their mark on popular music, yes popular. Though still considered Reggae, UB40 was and is enjoyed by those listening to it fot the first time not knowing what Reggae is. Higher Ground, and Promises and Lies are my two favorites. See if you can discover your own/5(78).
