I had a Voice Of The Beehive album on cassette in the late 80's and played it to death. All these years later i've bought the 'Best Of..' CD and am reminded why I loved them so much back then. What surprises me though is why they are never heard of anymore. I think they haven't had the recognition they have always deserved/5(23).

This album is fun and more polished than Let It Bee. However, it loses the edge with which Let It Bee stung me. Yes, Tracey and Melissa still deliver their sassy, sarcastic lyrics, and I would say that the lyrics, while not sophisticated by any stretch of the imagination, improve stylistically from Let It Bee.

After appearing on Bill Drummond's solo LP The Man, they formed Voice of the Beehive, taking the name from a Bette Davis film. Adding guitarist Mike Jones as well as Madness alumni Mark Bedford on bass and Daniel Woodgate on drums, the band recorded its initial demos, releasing their first singles "Just a City," "I Say Nothing" and "I Walk the Earth" and earning favorable comparisons to Blondie .

Cute and catchy song, with sugary pop vocals. And the group responsible was Voice Of The Beehive. Let It Bee, their debut, sported punkish power pop and ballads highlighted by Melissa Brooke Belland and Traci Bryn's twin harmonies filled with thoughtful and sage advice.
